Fall Protection Challenge

Users, who work on top of tanker, hopper grain, and gondola railcars, are often outdoors with no overhead structure. External factors like wind and rain further compound the fall hazard faced by these workers. With no overhead structure to anchor a fall protection system and a busy loading or work area an experienced partner in fall protection is a must.

Fall Protection Solution

CAI Safety Systems offers custom freestanding anchor to support a Fall Arrest System that will provide the extent of railcar coverage you need with minimal interference to your other loading or work operations. Our freestanding anchors and cable or rigid horizontal lifelines meet OSHA and ANSI fall protection requirements.

Features & Benefits

Outdoor Freestanding for Truck

CAI’s freestanding fall protection system is supported from concrete piers. This engineered approach gives you the option of having an outdoor fall arrest system that supports your Railcar loading needs.

Outdoor Freestanding Railcar System

If your railcars are serviced over a curved track we have a solution. Our fall protection system can be configured to offer strategically placed anchors around your railcar track allowing us to match the fall arrest cable horizontal lifeline system with the radius of your track.

Outdoor Freestanding Railcar System

Once on top of the Railcar the user is able to walk uninterrupted the length of the horizontal lifeline or crouch down with no restriction on movement. Pass-through features on cable systems means you only tie-off once and then walk the full span of the horizontal lifeline.

Outdoor Freestanding Railcar System

Our “T Anchor” design allows for the placement of the fall protection system between the rail tracks thus having the capability of two fall protection systems with a common anchor system.

Outdoor Freestanding Railcar System

CAI’s freestanding fall arrest anchors are designed to comply with the railroad minimum clearance requirements.

Outdoor Freestanding Railcar System

We have an in-house team to engineer and manufacture the freestanding fall arrest system. This means we can monitor the QA and QC throughout the process to make sure the product delivered to your doorstep is safe and meets your specification needs.

Outdoor Freestanding Railcar System

Often the need to service railcars on two parallel tracks creates a dilemma if there is no space to place the anchor between tracks. CAI has developed a solution by placing this anchor on the outside of one track AND then cantilevering over both tracks thereby providing a means for suspending an anchor point or horizontal lifeline over each railcar track.

**CAUTION WARNING** This fall protection system is designed to ensure your safety when used correctly. To prevent serious injury or death, it is imperative that you strictly adhere to the manufacturer's instructions. Only operate this system if you have received proper training. In accordance with OSHA regulations, it is mandatory to involve a Qualified Person for the design and installation supervision of all fall arrest and restraint systems, including the product highlighted on this page. To access detailed instructions, please download the system manuals from the 'Downloads' tab on each product page. For any inquiries or clarifications, feel free to contact us. Overhead Outdoor Freestanding System

Fall Arrest Anchor: The freestanding anchor provides an overhead means of tie-off to reduce the chances of a swing fall and fall distance.

Retrieval System: Safety starts at the ground level. Our pulley retrieval system allows the user to access the fall arrest system before even attempting to climb the vehicle or equipment that is going to be worked on.

Horizontal Lifeline: This is a rigid track or stainless steel cable lifeline that runs the desired length to allow the user to have access to the work area.

Connecting Means: A trolley that is designed to glide over the rigid or cable horizontal lifeline system. This feature keeps the fall arrest system directly above the user to reduce the chances of a swing fall.

Fall Arrest Device: The self-retracting lifeline is utilized to reduce the arresting forces of the fall on the user and minimize the fall distance.

Full Body Harness: Only a full body harness can be used in a fall arrest system such as the freestanding fall protection system. The harness reduces the forces of the fall on the body and also keeps the user in an upright position when properly worn.
