System Description

CAI Safety Systems offers permanent safety guardrails for fall protection that comes in different lengths and mounting options to address worksite needs. Our Fixed Mounted Guardrails are ideal choices for fall prevention at loading docks, roof parapet walls and many other leading edge hazards. This system is OSHA, CAL-OSHA, & WA-OSHA Compliant.

Our fixed guardrail system can be top or side mounted to your surface. A variety of finishes are also available along with safety gates to allow for safe access.

OSHA COMPLIANCE: This guardrail system requires to meet a force of at least 200 pounds (890 N), and has a maximum spacing between uprights/stanchions of 10 feet on center (120 inches or 3.04 meters). OSHA 1910.29(b) and 1926.502(b).
CAL/OSHA COMPLIANCE: This guardrail system if installed in the state of California or Washington, requires a maximum spacing between uprights/stanchions of 8 feet on center (96 inches or 2.44 meters). Cal-OSHA Title 9, 1620 and 3209. WA-OSHA WAC 296-24-75011.

Simple installation — prefabricated railing sections means no custom fabrication of guard rails.
Railing will be 42″ tall in the base. Railing length is available in 1-foot increments ranging from 2 feet to 10 feet, measured to the center of each leg.
Highly effective as hazard barriers. Commonly used at dock doors and truck pits, warehouse traffic lanes, construction excavation sites, new building construction, mezzanines, pier and rail yards, crowd control, and more.

What are Standard Rails & Pit Rails?

Standard Rails mount onto the ‘Top Floor Mount Bracket‘ and are 42 inches tall to meet OSHA requirements.

Pit Rails mount onto either the ‘Side Flush Mount Bracket‘ or ‘Wrap-Over-Edge Mount Bracket‘ and are 48.06 inches tall. The reason for these rails being taller is because about 6 inches of the rail is tucked into the bracket mount on the side wall or parapet. Thus, the height of the rail from floor/roof level up is 42 inches which meets OSHA requirements.

What are Standard Rails & Pit Rails?

Standard Rails mount onto the ‘Top Floor Mount Bracket‘ and are 42 inches tall to meet OSHA requirements.

Pit Rails mount onto either the ‘Side Flush Mount‘ or ‘Wrap-Over-Edge Mount‘ and are 48.06 inches tall.

The reason for these rails being taller is because about 6 inches of the rail is tucked into the bracket mount on the side wall or parapet.

STEP 3 – CHOOSE NUMBER OF RAILS & LENGTHS

Calculate the Total Length of System (in ft.)
Decide how many rails and length of rails you require to cover the total span of your system from start to end (refer to pic on the left)
As per OSHA regulations in some states such as California (CA) and Washington (WA), posts must be spaced not more than 8 feet (96 inches or 2.44 meters) on centers. Please choose rails no more than 8ft. in length if you are installing this system in CA or WA.
Input into the boxes provided above, enter the total number of rails required as per rail lengths decided.

STEP 4 – CHOOSE QUANTITY OF DOUBLE MOUNTS

STEP 5 – CHOOSE QUANTITY OF SINGLE MOUNTS (FINISHING KIT)

If the guardrail system is going to have an open end, you must install a Finishing Kit. The finishing kit shown below, will provide you with the Single Mounts to close these open ends.
For a single run system with one open end, you will need (1) finishing kit (single mount).

Each Fixed Rail component you choose in the product calculator comprises of:
- (1) rail (preferred finish)
- (2) locking pins (required to anchor the railing to the base mount.
Railings are 1-5/8 inch (41 mm) O.D.
Double mounts, Single mounts, Individual Rails, Finish Rails, and Toeboards can be purchased separately in the ‘Accessories’ tab or Fixed Mounted Guardrails Accessories page.
Single mount brackets are used as a Finishing Kit for your system to close open ends. Please refer to the ‘Finishing Kits’ tab.
Toeboards are not included with this system and can be purchased separately in the ‘Accessories’ tab or Fixed Mounted Guardrails Accessories page.
3/8 x 2.5” expansion anchor bolts may be used to anchor the bracket to your application. You may also use 3/8 x 2.75” expansion anchors depending on the which bolt works best with your application.
Please note that Anchor bolts for securing the Mounts to your application are not included with this system. Instructions have been provided in the user manual.

Finishing Kits

If the guardrail system is going to have an open end, you must install a Finishing Kit. The finishing kit shown below, will provide you with the Single Mounts to close these open ends.
