The Ballast Weight, weighing 58 lbs., is designed for additional wind loading in geographic locations with higher wind speeds. Made of cast iron with a galvanized finish.
This accessory must be used in conjunction with the Steel Non-penetrating Guardrails system only.
Our Steel Non-penetrating Guardrails enables fall protection without penetrating the floor and roof surface. When properly applied the counterweight system provides an OSHA compliant fall prevention system (1910.23(c)) for the roof edge, skylight, hatch, loading dock, mezzanine, elevated platform and construction site safety.
The Steel Guardrail System is a freestanding, non-penetrating railing system used for fall protection. It is designed to be a Motion Stopping Safety System thereby acting as a barrier between the worker and a fall hazard. This system will comply with all Federal OSHA standards found in 1926.500-503 and 1910.23.
**CAUTION WARNING** This is a fall protection system. The system must be used in strict conformance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death. Wind Load and Handling Guidelines:
CLASS 1 covers geographic locations where winds do not historically exceed 100 MPH. These locations should utilize our standard configuration with Return Kits no less than 5 feet long. Ballast weights are not required for this configuration.
CLASS 2 covers geographic locations where winds do not historically exceed 130 MPH. As with Class 1, these locations should utilize a standard configuration with Return Kits no less than 5 feet long. Ballast weights must be installed on ALL bases.
CLASS 3 covers geographic locations where winds do not historically exceed 150 MPH. As with Class 1 and 2, these locations should utilize a configuration of a 5-foot outrigger and base installed at 90 degrees from the run at the junction of every other rail. (2) Ballast weights must be installed on ALL bases.
