The Non-penetrating Skylight Guardrail is one more unique way to guard a skylight. The system surrounds the skylight with an OSHA complaint 42” high barrier that is modular and maintains fall protection around the skylight. The Skylight Guardrail is fully OSHA and Cal-OSHA compliant.
NOTE: Please note that the railings may require cutting to fit the correct length and width of your skylight. If your skylight dimensions do not fall within the given measurements above, please Contact us for more detailed information about your requirement.

The Skylight Guardrail excels in providing fall prevention for skylights that are larger than normal, tall like pyramid skylights and smoke hatches or smoke vents. It fits many sizes of skylights right out the box or with some easy cuts to the rails it can be customized to many other sizes. Its open-top design allows it to go around the tall pyramid-shaped skylights and also accommodates smoke hatches where the doors open should there be smoke or fire.
PLEASE NOTE: Cal-OSHA / WA-OSHA compliance allows for only lengths up to 8ft. or 96″ only in the states of CA and WA. Please contact us if you are installing this system in these states that exceeding 8ft. or 96″.

PLEASE NOTE: Federal OSHA compliance allows for all widths and lengths; Cal-OSHA compliance allows for only up to 52″ widths only.
Federal OSHA and Cal OSHA are specific on performance standards for railings, screens and covers for skylights. Paramount for all of them is that if a person falls onto the screen or cover they must not be allowed to break the lens of the skylight. In other words the screen or cover must not only support the weight of the person falling, it must also meet load requirements prescribed by OSHA. If using railings, the railing must meet load requirements of their own. Here are the pertinent standards from the https://www.osha.gov/ website by which skylight guarding is mandated by law and that all railings, covers and screens must comply.
Federal OSHA: General Industry (29 CFR 1910.29) and Construction (29 CFR 1926.501 & 1926.502)
Cal-OSHA: Title 8, Section 3212 and Title 8, Section 1632
ANSI: A1264.1 and Z359.1
29 CFR §1910.23 Guarding Floor and Wall Openings and Holes.
(a)(4) Every skylight floor opening and hole shall be guarded by a standard skylight screen or a fixed standard railing on all exposed sides.
(e)(8) Skylight screens shall be of such construction and mounting that they are capable of withstanding a load of 200 pounds applied perpendicular at any one area of the screen. They shall also be of such construction and mounting that under ordinary loads or impact, they will not deflect downward sufficiently to break the glass below them. The construction shall be of grillwork with openings not more than 4 inches long or slab work with openings not more than 2 inches wide with length unrestricted.
29 CFR §1926.501 Duty to have fall protection.
(a) General. (1) This section sets forth requirements for employers to provide fall protection systems. All fall protection required by this section shall conform to the criteria set forth in 1926.502 of this subpart. (a)(2) The employer shall determine if the walking/working surfaces on which its employees are to work have the strength and structural integrity to support employees safely. Employees shall be allowed to work on those surfaces only when the surfaces have the requisite strength and structural integrity.
(b)(4) Holes. (i) Each employee on walking/working surfaces shall be protected from falling through holes (including skylights) more than 6 feet (1.8m) above lower levels, by personal fall arrest systems, covers, or guardrail systems erected around such holes. (ii) Each employee on a walking/working surface shall be protected from tripping in or stepping into or through holes (including skylights) by covers. (iii) Each employee on a walking/working surface shall be protected from objects falling through holes (including skylights) by covers.
